Without attempting to grasp someone’s intention, I wouldn’t know how to respond.
（相手の意図を汲み取ろうとしなければ、どう答えていいか分からない。）〔共通テスト〕

withは「～があれば」、without「～がなければ」という意味です。対義語としてセットで覚えましょう。

ちなみに仮定法の構文は次のような形でした。

If 主語＋動詞の過去形 ・・・, 主語＋would 動詞の原形 ・・・
（もし～なら、・・・するのに）
If 主語＋had 過去分詞 ・・・, 主語＋would have 過去分詞 ・・・
（もし～だったら、・・・したのに）

これらのifをwithやwithoutに置き換えます。たとえばwithoutなら

となります。前半のWithout ・・・の部分は時制は考えなくても大丈夫です。

例文

1. With more practice, she could become a skilled pianist.
(もっと練習すれば、彼女は腕のあるピアニストになれるのに。)

2. With better time management, he might finish the project on time.
(もっと良い時間管理ができれば、彼はプロジェクトを時間通りに終えることができるのに。)

3. With more communication, the misunderstanding could be avoided.
(もっとコミュニケーションがあれば、誤解は避けられるのに。)

4. With proper planning, they might enjoy the trip even more.
(適切な計画があれば、彼らはもっと旅行を楽しむことができるだろうに。)

5. With additional funding, the school would been able to improve its facilities.
(追加の資金があれば、学校は施設を改善するのに。)

6. With clearer instructions, he could have assembled the furniture correctly.
(もっと明確な指示があれば、彼は家具を正しく組み立てることができたかもしれません。)

7. With earlier notice, she might have attended the meeting.
(もっと早い通知があれば、彼女は会議に出席したかもしれません。)

8. With more effort, he could have scored higher on the exam.
(もっと努力があれば、彼は試験でもっと高い点数を取ることができたかもしれません。)

9. With a different choice, they might have selected a better option.
(違う選択肢があれば、彼らはもっと良い選択をしたかもしれません。)

10. With proper guidance, she could have avoided making those mistakes.
(適切な指導があれば、彼女はあのようなミスを避けることができたかもしれません。)
